SUMMARY:Gesture Drawing Class
DESCRIPTION:Gesture drawing is a technique that aims to capture fluidity and motion\, infusing illustrations with a greater sense of life and vitality. In this class\, instructor and illustrator Robin Mork will share methods of working quickly and lightly to capture fluid gesture and moving figures using both charcoal and brush and ink. Afterward\, attendees will be invited to apply their new skills to illustrate a live dance performance in the museum’s Main Gallery. \nRobin Mork is a Brooklyn-based illustrator and book cover designer\, and an adjunct assistant professor of illustration and design at CUNY Queens College. She has a BA from Smith College and an MFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. Clients include Simon & Schuster\, JP Morgan Chase\, and Columbia University\, among others.

SUMMARY:Anchor in Continuum Dance Performance
DESCRIPTION:Poster House is thrilled to welcome dancer and choreographer Shira Kagan-Shafman and violinist and composer Leandria Lott for a new performance piece created in conversation with the exhibition Masked Vigilantes on Silent Motorbikes. Much like the acclaimed exhibition\, this production blurs the boundaries among multiple artistic mediums. Together\, the pair will explore the tension between the inevitability of change and the permanence of time\, allowing viewers to experience a Poster House exhibition in a new and engaging way. \nShira Kagan-Shafman (she/her) is a dancer and choreographer based in New York City. In 2021\, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Contemporary Dance from The New School and spent time in Israel participating in DanceJerusalem and Batsheva Dance Company’s Summer Course for outstanding dance students. She has performed professionally in works by Caitlin Corbett\, Kelley Donovan\, Rose Pasquarello Beauchamp\, Peggy Florin\, Dean Moss\, Rebecca Stenn\, Jess Pretty\, Mariana Valencia\, and Joanna Kotze. Additionally\, she participated in the Arts on Site Residency and Retreat\, developing her work To Breathe Over Seas that premiered at Arts on Site in December 2021 and was restaged in March 2022.Currently\, Kagan-Shafman works for Ephrat Asherie Dance. \nLeandria Lott (she/they) is a Brooklyn-based\, multi-faceted musician\, teacher\, composer\, and artist. Their passion has ignited her to explore music around the world. She has performed and participated in workshops and classes in the United Kingdom and Italy\, and has toured The Virgin Islands. She has also performed with Stevie Wonder and Kirk Franklin. They work with Arts on Site as a Community Leader\, and they are on the board of B.R.I.D.G.E Orchestra\, a hip hop orchestra based in Brooklyn\, where they act as the Marketing Manager. They play guitar\, violin\, and sing in the band The Royal Green Rangers with bandmate Brittany Harris. \nImage of dancer taken by Noor Eemaan\, image of violinist by Steph Russell.
