SUMMARY:First Friday
DESCRIPTION:Join Poster House on the First Friday of every month for free admission and extended hours! Museum Members can check in at the Info Desk to receive one free drink ticket to use at the bar from 6 – 9 PM. Explore the museum’s latest exhibitions and get in on the fun by attending a tour\, workshop\, performance\, or activity throughout the day. Every First Friday is different\, offering unique opportunities to engage with rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection. \n11am—2pm: Oppenheimer Movie Screening \nPoster House is pleased to present a screening of Oppenheimer (2023) in conjunction with the new exhibition Fallout: Atoms for War & Peace. The film\, which won seven Academy Awards\, dramatizes the work of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer on the Manhattan Project during World War II\, a scheme to develop the first nuclear weapons. \n1—7pm: Drop-in printmaking activity with Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop – $10 \nStop by the Poster History Timeline on First Friday for a printmaking demonstration led by Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop! This month\, try your hand at linoleum block printing inspired by the new exhibition Puerto Rico in Print: The Posters of Lorenzo Homar. \n3—4:30pm: Fused Plastic Collage Workshop – $10 \nHave you ever wondered what you can create with discarded plastics? Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Fallout: Atoms for War & Peace\, this hands-on workshop will introduce participants to the technique of fusing or layering plastics using an iron. Participants will explore the material affordances of various types of biodegradable\, recyclable\, and single-use plastics in order to create fused plastic collages inspired by posters on environmental activism. Join us in this imaginative intervention into the life cycle of plastics! Please note: masks are required due to the materials used in this workshop. \nWe encourage attendees to bring a piece of plastic to this workshop (flexible ones such as bags\, mailers\, or food packaging work best; they can be biodegradable\, recyclable\, or single-use). All materials and tools provided; no previous experience necessary. \n5—6pm: Munich Olympics Curatorial Tour \nEnjoy a rare chance to talk about design with one of the foremost designers in the world! Join Michael Bierut\, curator (and partner) at the esteemed design agency Pentagram\, on a curatorial tour of the posters made by Otl Aicher for the 1972 Munich Olympics. \n7—8pm: Bombazo Dance Company Performance \nPoster House is pleased to present a performance by Bombazzo Dance Company in honor of the new exhibition Puerto Rico in Print: The Posters of Lorenzo Homar. Enjoy an evening of Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba dance accompanied by live drums. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the cultural history of this dance style. \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs.
