SUMMARY:Strausfeld Cinema Series: An Actor’s Revenge
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Art for Art House: The Posters of Peter Strausfeld\, Poster House will present a special mini film series on March 20. A celebrated classic of Japanese cinema\, Kon Ichikawa’s An Actor’s Revenge (1963) follows a renowned kabuki performer as he seeks to avenge the deaths of his parents. This highly stylized film reflects some of the sophisticated dramatic intensity that characterizes Strausfeld’s posters. Its vivid colors\, costumes\, and performances make it the perfect movie to see before or after your visit to the exhibition—be sure to take a look at Strausfeld’s remarkable promotional poster for it while you are there. \nBe sure to stop by Café des Affiches for themed drinks and snacks to accompany the screening! \nDuration: 1 hour 53 minutes \nRecommended age: 13 and above \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. SUMMARY:Strausfeld Cinema Series: Ashes and Diamonds
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Art for Art House: The Posters of Peter Strausfeld\, Poster House will present a special mini film series on March 20. One of the most influential postwar European films\, Andrzej Wajda’s Ashes and Diamonds (1958)\, unfolds during the final hours of World War II as a young Polish resistance fighter confronts loyalty\, morality\, and the cost of conflict. The film\, with its striking cinematography and emotional weight\, reflects the kind of international titles Strausfeld represented so effectively in his poster designs for London’s Academy Cinema. \nBe sure to stop by Café des Affiches for themed drinks and snacks to accompany the screening! \nDuration: 1 hour 43 minutes \nRecommended Age: 14 and older \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. SUMMARY:Strausfeld Cinema Series: The Connection
DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Art for Art House: The Posters of Peter Strausfeld\, Poster House will present a special mini film series on March 20. Radical\, jazz-infused\, and formally daring\, Shirley Clarke’s The Connection (1961) is a groundbreaking example of American independent cinema. The film blurs the line between documentary and fiction\, capturing the raw energy and experimentation that define many of the posters created by Peter Strausfeld for avant-garde screenings at the Academy Cinema in London. \nBe sure to stop by Café des Affiches for themed drinks and snacks to accompany the movie! \nDuration: 1 hour 50 minutes \nRecommended Age: 15 and above (please note that this film includes depictions of drug use and addiction. Viewer discretion is advised). \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs.
