SUMMARY:Drink & Draw: Drag Cabaret
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate design\, performance\, and play at Poster House’s Drink and Draw: Drag Cabaret\, inspired by the exhibition Love & Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS. The evening\, led by instructor A.E. Kieren and hosted by Junior Mintt\, will feature three live drag models\, including Junior herself. \nGuests will spend the first 90 minutes sketching drag performers as they move to cabaret music through a series of expressive poses and unique costumes. After a short break\, the night will shift into a 30 minute cabaret set—when the performers will take to the stage and share their artistry! \nAll skill levels are welcome and all materials will be provided. Admission includes a complimentary cocktail from Café des Affiches. \nThis program is suitable for attendees aged 21 and over. \nA.E. Kieren is a freelance illustrator. He specializes in on-location illustration for “sketch journalism” as well as for events and entertainment. He holds a BFA in Illustration from College for Creative Studies in Detroit\, Michigan\, and an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from the School of Visual Arts in New York. Kieren also is the host and curator of The Anatomy Lesson\, the long-running and popular weekly sketch night at Club Cumming in the East Village. \nJunior Mintt is a Brooklyn based drag artist\, business owner\, and motivational speaker. A proud Black trans woman\, she is the creator of Mintty Makeup\, one of the first Black trans- owned makeup lines\, which has been featured in Buzzfeed\, Paper Magazine\, and Vogue Beauty. Her work on stage and in the community has been highlighted in Vogue\, New York Magazine’s The CUT\, i-D Magazine\, and Gayletter. Junior is also the creator of the drag variety show In Living Color and a cohost of the Brooklyn Liberation March\, using performance to uplift and celebrate Black\, Brown\, and trans communities. \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. DESCRIPTION:Join music director Robert Lamont and singer and actress Gabrielle Lee for an enthralling journey into the early years of American musical comedy. Through live performance and storytelling\, these esteemed performers will explore the relationship between Tin Pan Alley and the New York stage\, highlighting the powerful contributions of Black composers\, lyricists\, publishers\, and performers between 1890 and 1910. \nThe song-filled evening will spotlight the rise of Black-owned publishing houses on 28th Street and the Broadway productions that established this music as part of the Great American Songbook. Lee and Lamont will illustrate how the sheet music and poster art featured in the exhibition Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage and Screen shaped popular culture across the United States and around the world. They will also share stories of the influential women who helped define American show music during this vibrant period. \nRobert Lamont is a musical director\, arranger\, and pianist known for his work in musical theater and American song traditions. He has collaborated with leading vocalists\, theater artists\, and cultural institutions throughout New York\, bringing historical and contemporary performance practices into conversation. Lamont’s deep knowledge of Tin Pan Alley and early Broadway music shapes his dynamic approach to musical storytelling. \nGabrielle Lee is a singer and actress whose career spans Broadway\, national tours\, concert stages\, and film and television. DESCRIPTION:Join Poster House for an evening with Rich Tu\, a creative director and educator\, as well as the designer of the 2026 FIFA World Cup poster for New York and New Jersey. Tu will discuss the evolution of World Cup posters and take you through the creative process behind his 2026 design for the event. \nRich Tu (@rich_tu) is an award-winning artist and creative based in New York City. He is a partner and executive creative director at the branding agency Sunday Afternoon. Tu has also held creative leadership roles at Jones Knowles Ritchie\, MTV Entertainment Group\, and Nike Inc. He won the ADC Young Guns award and recently received the prestigious Paul Manship Medallion for significant contributions to the Art Directors Club and the creative industry.  \nTu received his BFA in Communication from Rutgers University and a Masters Degree in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts (SVA) in New York. DESCRIPTION:Join Es-pranza Humphrey\, curator of Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage & Screen\, for a discussion over coffee about her research trip to Jacksonville\, Florida\, and Norman Studios. Es-pranza will discuss the impact this unlikely location had on the history of films with all-Black casts and why studio head Richard Norman was at the vanguard of the “race films” that were important to her research for the exhibition. \nIn the 1910s\, Jacksonville was home to more than 30 silent film studios specializing in a variety of genres for Black and white cinemagoers. Today\, Norman Film Studios is the only remaining structure of its kind from this era. It was one of the first studios in the United States to make such race films\, providing unique opportunities for Black actors and Black audiences. \nAfter showing you a clip from The Flying Ace (1926)\, the only Norman Studios film to survive in its entirety\, Es-pranza will guide you through the exhibition\, focusing on the posters promoting films produced by Richard Norman. \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. DESCRIPTION:Register for Summer Camp\, a weeklong drop-off program for kids ages 8 to 12! From July 13 to July 17\, 2026\, Poster House’s educators will lead them on an extraordinary artistic adventure as they explore poster making\, design\, and history. \nEach day focuses on a different printmaking technique. Campers will have the special privilege of learning from professional printmakers and using professional printing materials. On July 19\, 2026\, campers will exhibit their artwork to the public during an open\, drop-in studio workshop.  \nPlease note that registration is limited to one child at a time. \nCamp will run from 9:30am-4pm daily. Drop-off is from 9-9:30am and pick-up is from 4-4:30pm. Along the way\, Reddick will connect the imagery in Act Black to the streets where Black actors\, musicians\, and cultural leaders transformed American stage and screen\, highlighting the powerful intersection of place\, performance\, and poster art.  \nJohn T. Reddick is an architectural preservationist\, historian\, and collector of Harlem- related documents and ephemera\, several pieces of which are on view in Act Black. He has contributed his knowledge of Harlem’s culture and architecture to a number of public art and open space projects in that community\, among them the Ralph Ellison Memorial\, Harriet Tubman Square\, and the Frederick Douglass Memorial and Circle. Supported by a grant from the Mellon Foundation\, Reddick is currently working with the Central Park Conservancy to encourage public discussion around the history of Seneca Village as the basis for a formal commemoration of that predominantly African American community\, established before the founding of Central Park itself.  \nReddick received his BS in Architecture from Ohio State University and his MA in Architecture from Yale University. \nAccessibility Note: Assistive listening devices will be used on this tour. DESCRIPTION:Poster House members are invited to a private “Last Look” tour of the exhibition Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage & Screen. \nStarting in the 1880s\, Black performers and those invested in telling stories centering Black people attempted to counter the dehumanizing and harmful stereotypes created by white people to portray Black characters. Since theatrical performances are rarely recorded and many of the movies that featured all-Black casts are now considered “lost films” (films where no copies are known to survive)\, advertising posters are sometimes the only remaining evidence of important productions made with Black talent between the 1870s and the 1940s. DESCRIPTION:Join Poster House for a preview screening of What Wondrous Love Is This in connection with the exhibition Love & Fury: New York’s Fight Against AIDS. \nIn this extraordinary film\, Brooklyn-based journalist and director Tim Chaffee explores the life and work of his mother\, Dr. Barbara Chaffee\, a public health doctor in Binghamton\, New York\, who confronted the synonymous epidemics of drug addiction\, AIDS\, and HIV in the 1980s and ’90s\, later facing a personal struggle of her own with cancer.  \nAfter her death\, Tim interviewed Barbara’s friends\, colleagues\, and the patients she had cared for\, hoping to better understand the mother he had just lost. What emerged was the story of a small upstate community that came together to respond to one of the first modern public health crises. Through living memory and archival footage\, Tim documents his mother’s steadfast commitment to her patients and her determination to persuade institutions to care for individuals. \nTim Chaffee is a former producer for the New York Times and Yahoo News\, where he has spent more than five years developing new forms of journalism using virtual and augmented-reality technologies. His work includes investigations of war\, music\, art\, and culture and he has been honored with multiple National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards as well as an Excellence in Immersive Storytelling Award. Several of the city’s landmark institutions\, including the New York Public Library and the Empire State Building\, played crucial roles in some of the largest book drives in American history. \nIn honor of Reading Under Fire: Arming Minds & Hearts During Wartime\, join curator Molly Manning for a walking tour of the literary locales and historic sites in Midtown Manhattan that were instrumental to the cause. After the tour\, guests will return to Poster House to learn about the posters that represented and advanced the nationwide commitment to entertaining and educating troops abroad during two world wars.  \nThe starting location for this tour will be shared with attendees a few days prior to the event. Admission to the museum is included in your event ticket.  \nMolly Guptill Manning is an author\, historian\, curator\, and associate professor of law at New York Law School. She is the author of the New York Times bestseller When Books Went to War\, The Myth of Ephraim Tutt\, and The War of Words. She has spoken across the country about the power of the written word\, and has curated exhibitions showcasing the essential role that books\, magazines\, and newspapers played in World Wars I and II. Before she became a professor\, Molly worked in the New York federal courts for 13 years. She earned a BA and an MA in American History\, an MA in Museum Studies from NYU\, and a JD from the Benjamin N.
