DESCRIPTION:Teens are invited to a special a back-to-back PH x Teens event! \nIn partnership with the Young Lordes Collective\, PH x Teens invites you to a zine making workshop. After they create their zines\, teens are encouraged to explore Black Power to Black People: Branding the Black Panther Party. \nMaia Villalba (she/they) is a Chinese Cuban communist\, organizer\, and abolitionist from Lower Manhattan. At New York University\, she concentrates in Social and Cultural Analysis at the College of Arts and Sciences and serves as the President of the Sexual and Reproductive Health Positive Club (SRH+).  In her most recent work\, Wretched Women: A Manifesto on Abolition\, Anti-Globalization\, and the International Struggle for the Commons\, she exposes the dark underbelly of global corporate development and explains how social practices\, acts of provisioning\, and forms of peer governance offer practical tools of resistance against the forces of late stage capitalism. Their manifesto is set for publication by Iskra Books in 2023. \nAt the intersection of artistry and activism\, the Young Lordes Collective (YLC) is a grassroots artist-activist youth collective that aims to create a growing and breathing network of underrepresented New Yorkers. Since March 2021\, the Young Lords Collective has cultivated a generative space for community-based learning\, care\, and revolutionary struggle for the emerging artists and activists of our generation. Through multimedia publications\, mutual aid initiatives\, food drives\, open mic nights\, educational discussions\, and more\, the Young Lordes Collective pays homage to activist groups of the past by uplifting the change makers of the future. \nPH x Teens is a drop-in program for young adults ages 13 to 18. Advanced registration is encouraged\, but participants are not expected to stay the entire time; guests should plan to spend about an hour on this interactive\, self-guided activity.

DESCRIPTION:Poster House members are invited to join independent scholar Eve M. Kahn at the Grolier Club for a tour of To Fight for the Poor with My Pen: Zoe Anderson Norris\, Queen of Bohemia. \nAlthough little remembered today\, Norris is considered a foremother of modern-day social-justice advocates and confessional bloggers baring souls in print. SUMMARY:Person Place Thing with Nicholas Lowry
DESCRIPTION:Poster House is thrilled to partner with Randy Cohen of Person Place Thing for a live recording of this popular public radio series. He will be joined by Poster House Advisory Board member and tartan legend\, Nicholas “Nicho”  Lowry. Nicholas wears many poster-related hats: auctioneer\, specialist\,  lecturer\, curator\, historian\, enthusiast\, and collector. He is perhaps best known\, though\, as the President and Principal Auctioneer of Swann Auction Galleries\, where he is also the Director of its vintage posters department. As one of the world’s foremost authorities on vintage posters\, he has spent nearly 25 years serving regularly as a poster appraiser on the PBS television series Antiques Roadshow. \nPerson Place Thing is an interview show based on the idea that people are particularly engaging when they speak\, not directly about themselves\, but about something they care about. Guests talk about one person\, one place\, and one thing with particular meaning to them. The result: surprising stories from great talkers and thinkers.  \nRandy Cohen’s first professional work was writing humor pieces\, essays\, and stories for newspapers and magazines. His first television work was writing for Late Night With David Letterman\, for which he won three Emmy awards. His fourth Emmy was for his work on Michael Moore’s TV Nation. He was the ethics columnist at the New York Times for twelve years. He is currently the creator and host of Person Place Thing\, a public radio program. \nPoster house Members can use their email address at checkout to receive 20% off the ticket price. \nThis program is presented in person at Poster House. Automatic closed captioning will be provided. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is available upon request with two weeks notice—please email access@posterhouse.org to request interpretation services. Visual descriptions will be provided.  \nQuestions about accessibility? Please contact Sarit Cahana\, Access Coordinator\, at access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387‬.\nFor other event related questions\, please contact info@posterhouse.org
