Poster House is excited to partner with legendary gig-poster designer Mike King on an in-person silkscreen mini workshop at the museum.
Limited to six patrons at a time, Mike King will introduce you to the wonderful world of screenprinting. He will demonstrate how screens are made and used, answer any questions you might have about various design and printing techniques, and even let you try your hand at making the final pass on a pre-made Poster House poster that you can then take home.
Each drop-in session will last approximately 45 minutes and will take place in a fully-ventilated room with access to the outside world. As required throughout the museum, guests and staff will remain masked at all times and social distancing will be enforced. Please reserve a ticket for each member of your party, and aim to be on time so that we are able to properly clean the space between groups.
Mike King is America’s most prolific concert poster artist, having created over 5,000 posters for concerts around the world for a wide variety of artists and musicians, from speed metal to latin jazz, country and western to hardcore punk, electronic the bluegrass and most every genre in between. His unique mix of humor, typography, garishness, and sheer quantity set his work apart. Mike has also designed album covers, merchandise, and print advertising for such legendary names as Ben Harper, The Decemberists, Pink Partini, The Pixies, Jack Johnson, Elliott Smith, Broken Social Scene, The Reverend Horton Heat, The Wipers, and Dead Moon, as well a litany of corporate clients from Stumptown Coffee to Dr. Martens. In the summer of 2021, Mike will open the Atlantic Avenue Print Club in Brooklyn that will offer classes in screen printing, custom printing, studio space, and special events. His book Crash America will be available in the Poster House gift shop by summer 2021.
