SUMMARY:Members-Only Tour: Indigenous Central Park
DESCRIPTION:In honor of the exhibit Designed to Be Red: Native American & Indigenous Poster Works\, Poster House members are invited on a guided tour of Central Park to examine the past\, present\, and future of indigenous presence within its landscapes.  \nThe area occupied by the Lenape (or Delaware) people before the Europeans arrived was known to them as Lenapehoking\, and it covered roughly the area between New York City and Philadelphia\, including all of New Jersey\, southeastern Pennsylvania\, and part of Delaware. What is now Central Park served as an essential transit route\, connecting the northern and southern lands of these Indigenous inhabitants as well as providing fertile ground for agriculture and hunting. \nThe tour will begin at the Charles A. Dana Discovery Center at noon\, located on the east side of the park at 110th Street. Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.  \nAccessibility Note: As this is an off-site event\, masks and clear masks are available free of charge with prior notification. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon advanced request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. For other event-related questions\, please contact events@posterhouse.org.
