Join Poster House on the First Friday of every month for free admission and extended hours! Explore the museum’s latest exhibitions and get in on the fun by attending a tour, workshop, performance, or activity throughout the day. Every First Friday is different, offering unique opportunities to engage with rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection.

1-7pm: Drop-In Silkscreen Printing with Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop

Try your hand at printmaking with the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop! Visitors will have the opportunity to silkscreen a halftone print inspired by the exhibition Lester Beall & A New American Identity. No previous experience is required.

This drop-in activity is pay-what-you-wish: donations are appreciated and encouraged!

2-3pm: Monotype Printing Workshop – $15

Monotyping is a printmaking process that involves putting ink or paint directly on a printing plate to create an ephemeral, one-of-a-kind print. Join multimedia artist Sabrina Sims to experiment with this iterative process and learn exciting techniques including stenciling, masking, wet-on-wet blending, and subtractive layering.

Each participant will create monoprints and have the opportunity to trade with each other at the end of the workshop. No previous experience necessary; all materials provided.

Accessibility Note: At the request of the instructor, masks are required for this workshop.

4-5pm: Nike Type & Brand Tour

Join designer, educator, and type enthusiast Carrie Hamilton for a tour of Just Frame It! How Nike Turned Sports Stars into Superheroes. Explore the ways in which the band used bold, clear type and decorative elements to highlight the athletes’ strengths and personalities. Learn about how the original shoe company developed a strong brand presence that set it apart from the competition. Questions strongly encouraged!

5-6:30pm: Space Jam Movie Screening

Everybody get up, it’s time to slam now! Poster House is pleased to screen the classic 1996 children’s film Space Jam, in conjunction with the museum’s acclaimed exhibition Just Frame It! How Nike Turned Sports Stars into Superheroes. Don’t miss what critics have called “The greatest sports movie of all time to feature cartoon characters.”

7-8pm: Gotham Cheer Performance

Poster House is pleased to welcome Gotham Cheer for a one-of-a-kind performance inspired by the hit exhibition Just Frame It! How Nike Turned Sports Stars into Superheroes. This performance will highlight the resilience, diversity, and community spirit that drives sports. Witness firsthand the incredible athleticism and camaraderie that have made Gotham Cheer a local favorite that will leave you uplifted and inspired. This event is not to be missed!
