First Friday: An Evening with John Benitez & Evolution

Join us for an evening of powerful music with Grammy-winning bassist, composer, and arranger John Benitez and his dynamic new ensemble, Evolution. Born and raised in Puerto Rico and long based in the Bronx, Benitez is celebrated for his genre-spanning collaborations with legends like Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, Batacumbele, Wynton Marsalis, Chucho Valdés, and Roy Hargrove. His latest project blends deep Afro-Caribbean roots with contemporary jazz, showcasing the vibrant sounds of Puerto Rican musical traditions reimagined for today’s stage.

This performance is presented in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America and is inspired by Poster House’s current exhibition, Puerto Rico in Print: The Posters of Lorenzo Homar—a tribute to Puerto Rican resilience, creativity, and cultural pride.
