Join us this Black History Month to celebrate creativity and storytelling through art. Honor someone special in your life by creating a meaningful mixed-media portrait that captures their essence using simple materials. Bring an image to use as a reference or to incorporate into your portrait for a personal touch.
Jara Montez is a Brooklyn-based artist and educator whose work draws inspiration from the bold, simple style of children’s books. She uses limited materials to craft intentional, mixed-media collages that capture the essence of her subjects. Passionate about amplifying underrepresented voices, her latest project, “The Vanguards,” celebrates the achievements of Black women.
