Genius on Display: Jappy Agoncillo

Join Poster House for a conversation with illustrator Jappy Agoncillo as he shares the evolution of his creative practice. Through a presentation of sketches, process work, and finished projects, Agoncillo will discuss developing a personal style, navigating creative industries, working with professional representation, and the influences that continue to shape his work, from his native Manila to his adopted home of New York City.

Following the presentation, Agoncillo will join CMYK Council member Ashley Wu for a conversation about illustration, identity, and building a sustainable creative career before answering audience questions.

This program is presented by Poster House’s CMYK Council, the museum’s BIPOC advisory board that works to ensure the museum is accessible to communities of color.

Jappy Agoncillo is a Manila-born artist, illustrator, and muralist based in New York City. Well-known for his dynamic, vibrant, and expressive style inspired by skateboarding and street art, Jappy has created work in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, South Korea, Singapore, Australia, and Mumbai, as well as in his hometown of Manila. Aside from his fine and street art practices, Jappy has also built a prolific career from brand collaborations and commercial commissions, working with clients such as Nickelodeon, PlayStation, Red Bull, Marvel, and the New York Giants.
