Join Poster House on the First Friday of every month for free admission and extended hours! Explore the museum’s latest exhibitions and get in on the fun by attending a tour, workshop, performance, or activity throughout the day. Every First Friday is different, offering unique opportunities to engage with rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection.

Accessibility Note: Poster House is wheelchair accessible, with an elevator to all floors, accessible restrooms throughout the building, and an automatic door at our main entrance on 23rd Street.

For all events Poster House is mask optional, however masks are encouraged to ensure that everyone in our community can participate. Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Please note, for the Kinetic Light Dance Performance, masks will be required. 

Assistive Listening Devices, fidget tools, earplugs, masks, and stools are available for all events. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) are available upon request for the Monotype Printing Workshop and the Verbal Description Tour. ASL interpretation will be provided for the Barbie movie screening and the Kinetic Light performance.

1-7:00pm: Drop-in Woodblock Printing

Stop by the Poster History Timeline during First Friday to try your hand at woodblock printing! Select from one of three designs made by teaching artist Sato Yamomoto, all inspired by the acclaimed exhibition Wonder City of the World: New York City Travel Posters. Don’t miss your chance to experience this historic printing method and walk away with your very own commemorative print! 

Sato Yamomoto is a billingual Japanese artist inspired by culture and diversity. Born in Meguro, Tokyo and currently living in Brooklyn, New York, her unique style of art includes advanced ambidextrous and ukiyo-e printmaking skills that she uses in her practice.

3-4:30: In-Person Vibrant Verbal Description Tour

Members of the low-vision and blind community are invited to an in-person Vibrant Verbal Description Tour at Poster House. This event will provide exclusive access to the museum’s exhibition, The Anatomy of a Movie Poster: The Work of Dawn Baillie. This intimate experience will allow guests to get up close with the posters described, as well as provide additional tactile objects to help illuminate the art. 

Accessibility Note: Assistive listening devices, fidget tools, earplugs, stools, tactile objects, N95 masks, and clear masks will be available for use at this event. Sighted guides are available upon request. ASL interpretation or CART are available upon request.

5-7pm: Barbie Movie Screening with ASL Interpretation & Audio Description

The Anatomy of a Movie Poster: The Work of Dawn Baillie includes some of the most iconic and beloved posters in modern cinematic history. Throughout the exhibition, Poster House will screen a selection of films from the movie-focused exhibition. This First Friday, guests will enjoy a free screening to Barbie with ASL interpretation and audio description. Also on view will be one of the original Barbie posters. Be sure to stop by Café des Affiches for exclusive, themed drinks and snacks to accompany the screening!

Accessibility Note: An ASL interpreter will be available at this event. ASL interpretation, closed captioning, and audio description will be embedded in the screening. Assistive listening devices, fidget tools, earplugs, chairs with backs, N95 masks, and clear masks will be available for use at this event.
