Poster House is a brand new museum dedicated to posters, slated to open in Manhattan in 2019.
Our mission is to showcase the incredible lineage of poster history and design through exhibitions, events, educational programs, and interactive projects. We are inspired by the global nature of posters and their mission to speak to all people, en masse, in the public forum. Our programming reflects this, and we have committed to presenting at least one non-Western subject and one female subject in every exhibition season. Poster House will also house one of the most extensive libraries on poster-related fields, which will be open to the public as a research resource. And our Living Archive of current street campaigns from around the world keeps apace of poster history as it competes with digital advertising.
Poster House will show how posters shed light on human behavior, world events, consumerism, technology, and many artistic trends. They help us understand what society was like in a certain place and time. Poster became sites of innovation for graphic designers and advertisers who had to find ways to grab the attention of distracted passersby. The resulting public notices can be beautiful, avant-garde, funny, scandalous, and well-designed.
