Join Poster House on the First Friday of every month for free admission and extended hours! Explore the museum’s latest exhibitions and get in on the fun by attending a tour, workshop, performance, or activity throughout the day. Every First Friday is different, offering unique opportunities to engage with rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection. Check back soon for a complete list of activities.
1-7pm: Print Your Own Travel Poster with Mike King – $10
Join the world’s most prolific gig poster artist, Mike King, and screenprint your own NYC travel poster! Inspired by Wonder City of the World: New York City Travel Posters, these images celebrate the lesser-known monuments of NYC, including signage shops in Chinatown, pawn shops in the Lower East Side, and laundromats in Harlem. Stop by the Poster History Timeline from 1–7pm and customize your poster inspired by these Big Apple icons!
1pm: Dirty Dancing Movie Screening
The Anatomy of a Movie Poster: The Work of Dawn Baillie includes some of the most iconic and beloved posters in modern cinematic history. Throughout the exhibition, Poster House will screen a selection of films highlighted in the show. This First Friday, guests will enjoy a free screening of the classic film Dirty Dancing, one of the first movie posters Dawn Baillie worked on as lead designer.
3pm: Collaborative Stop-Motion Animation Workshop – $15
Join teaching artist Paris Baillie for a hands-on introductory workshop to stop-motion animation. Participants will learn the basics of stop-motion animation and work together to create an animated project. Learn how to use simple materials, including clay and smartphones, to create your own stop-motion animations.
6pm: Travel Poster Collage Workshop – $15
Join artist Acacia Rodriguez to make a personalized collage poster inspired by the new exhibition Wonder City of the World: New York City Travel Posters. Attendees will be encouraged to choose a location in NYC as the subject for their mixed-media artwork. While all materials will be provided, participants are welcome to bring their own images to integrate into their collage.
Poster House is pleased to welcome back Ajna Dance Company for a special performance. Don’t miss their captivating medley of Bollywood and Bhangra dances inspired by the exhibition Advertising India’s Sandalwood Film Industry, on view at Poster House through April 14.
7:30pm: Its Showtime NYC Dance Performance
It wouldn’t be the New York subway without street dancers—so what better way to celebrate Poster House’s new exhibition Wonder City of the World: New York City Travel Posters than with a performance by It’s Showtime NYC?! These skilled performers will activate the main gallery with dances commonly seen in public spaces throughout the city.
